Notes
Jessica,Tape and Suzan were in the village with the purpose of building the first demonstration stove. On arriving there, they found some community members gathered at the meeting place who happily welcomed them and led them to one of the previously selected home where the first demonstration stove would be built. Some of the materials to be used for building were already in place such as the grass, water, banana stems, hoes and spades. Suzan humbly requested the members to bring the remaining items and also to lead them to a nearby anthill where they could collect some of its soils for building the stove. Kibo staff together with the community members started digging out the soil from the anthill and carried it to the home where the stove was to be built. Kibo staff measured the soil and mixed it with the grass outside the kitchen while the community was watching, this was important because the members needed to master each step and skills for building the energy saving stove since it was their first time and they didn’t know anything. When the measurements were done, Tape asked the members to join Kibo staff in stamping the dirt until it became soft and ready for building the stove. Together they stamped it while singing songs of joy and then after carried the soft dirt into the kitchen. Kibo staff requested members to go in the kitchen and watch every step while asking questions wherever they didn’t understand. This was very important because it would enable members to master the skills faster. When the stove was finally built, Jessica thanked members for their participation and encouraged them to continue doing so in the next demonstration stoves that will be built in the coming meeting, for this would make them perfect whenever they would build more fuel-efficient stoves on their own. Suzan also requested the community members to continue attending to the other lessons for the healthy and safe kitchen program which will improve on their healthy lives such as smearing the kitchen walls and stoves, improving and maintaining their sanitation and hygiene facilities such as the dish racks, rubbish pits and the hand wash equipment. The chairperson on behalf of the community thanked Kibo staff for an educative program that they brought to them and promised to continue attending to each lesson for the healthy and safe kitchen program. Kibo staff together with the members agreed on a date and time that the next meeting will take place, a volunteer among the community then closed the meeting with a prayer.
