Notes
Tom made a visit to kalitumba village to check on facility constructions especially the roofing of latrines. When he arrived in the village he was joined by other committee members and together they moved around the village checking on facilities especially latrines, encouraging and guiding the residents on how to better construct and roof the latrines. Tom also checked on hand washing as well. They started moving from the trading center section were they saw about five other new latrines roofed with the iron sheet. From the trading center section they moved to another section were they were able to see more new latrines also constructed and roofed with the iron sheet. But mostly, there was a home of a lady who for the last 25 years she had never had a latrine. When Tom used to visit the home, she used to hide because she was always ashamed of not having a latrine. When her husband started on digging the pit, she was very excited and she stopped running. After her husband finished the latrine, she openly spoke about the shame she felt back then when she did not have a latrine. On this day, She proudly asked that Tom could take a picture of her standing next to her latrine. She contributed to the purchasing of the iron sheet and therefore she was very proud of her newly constructed and roofed latrine. She said she now feels at home and at piece. Tom after left to the lower section where he also found an elderly man and he was equally proud of his new latrine. Tom and the committee members were very encouraged by those stories.
