Notes
Abraham met twenty one Bukoma A community members and found them in their usual place of meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to discussed how they are going to start the saving scheme as a group. The chairman Mr Mugere said that they have been thinking about starting a saving scheme but they have not been having something which can bring them together and since Kibo came to their village they think it is now time to start. All members agreed with him and they asked how are they going to start. Abraham thanked the members for coming up with the idea and told them to have the following in mind, to come up with amount each will be saving and this has to be uniform and they need to think about the amount whereby all members can afford to pay because their income is not the same, time frame and they may decide that every harvest because they are peasants, getting books where they will keep records and it is necessary for both the one who is paying and receiving to have books where they record their transactions because if one record gets lost the other helps. The members agreed to have other meetings without Kibo members and they will discuss more about the above issues. Abraham advised them to start discussing these issues even before they start a saving scheme and it will give them more light on the thing they want to do because they need also to think about how are they going to keep the money and what they hope to do with the money after collecting, will they be giving out some soft loans so that they will be getting a small percentage? The chairman said that he shared with Bukoma B group and they also want to start saving some money. They said that they are going to meet on Monday and continue the discussion.
