Notes
Alex first went to Maliga upper village to check on the borehole that was recently installed with new pipes and rods by the community together with the hand pump mechanic. The pipes were bought and taken on Wednesday 12/12/2018 on the way to repair a well in Nawandyo A. The hand pump mechanic together with the community members led by the water user committee installed these parts the following day. Maliga upper has two boreholes and have been repaired now by Kibo group. Alex went to check on this borehole because he wanted to make sure it was working very well and that there were no any issues. The community is very happy that now both of their boreholes are working fine and thank Kibo group for the support. Both boreholes in this village weren’t working but Kibo group and the village both partnered to repair both of them. The village made a contribution that met the hand pump mechanic costs and repair, 7 stainless pipes and 7 stainless rods were installed in this borehole.
Alex then switched to Ituba Namalowe to check on the new borehole casting that was completed last week. He found that the slab had been well covered and protected by the community members. The new slab was also drying very well with no cracks so far. Normally it’s advised to let it dry and settle for at least 14 days. Also this water was very challenging to get it clear and it called for the pump testing team to blow out for more than 8 hours before it looked clear. The pipes, rods and pump head will be installed at some point soon. Hopefully this borehole will be ready for the community to start using in January 2019 and will continue to prepare the community on what to be done fulfilling all the remaining steps in January 2019 before the borehole can be ready for use.
