Notes
Enock and Martin visited this village to check on progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen areas, rubbish pits and many more facilities. The community is embracing the program working so hard towards improving their sanitation and hygiene. The chairman and VHTs walked with us to continue checking on homes which are still in the progress of constructing new facilities. We saw some new two latrines which have been constructed with brick, roofed with grass on top. We also saw three new rubbish pits, two new dish racks with good and strong poles. There is an old lady who for 10 years they haven’t a latrine. Since we had the triggering session they learnt the core importance of latrines and good sanitation in their homes. We saw 7 new pits which haven’t been constructed on. They are waiting to get bricks so that they can make proper walls. As we walked home to home, we continued teaching the lessons of using Ash in latrines to chase flies out of the latrines hence reducing the spread and movement of germs from one place to another. We made a demonstration in one of the homes so that the residents can easily see how ash is so efficient and effect. Some of the ladies said they are able to take showers during the day and they are so happy for the programs. There are very few cases of open defecation since most of the community members learnt the importance of having latrines and using them effectively. Enock reminded the residents about the expenditure spent on treatment Due to continuous diseases like diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, trachoma, typhoid etc. The chairman and VHTs promised to encourage all their fellow residents to improve on the sanitation levels of the whole village.
