Learning Objectives
Identify Passive, Assertive and Aggressive behaviors and how they are applied in our day to day lives
Notes
Introduction Following Attack and Avoid communication styles, Lorna therefore went to follow up with another subtopic related to the communication styles under Assertiveness; Passive, Assertive and Aggressive communication styles. Overview Lorna reached at the same time with the chairman at the meeting place where he told Lorna that he was doing a last minute reminder unto the members about the meeting. In a short while the community members joined them. The chairman opened up the meeting and welcomed Lorna back from the holidays and urged the community to keep up coming to the meetings when called upon. An opening prayer was said and as usual Lorna started by reviewing the previous topics before continuing with the lesson of the day. After the review Lorna went ahead and started with the days topic and just like the lesson on Attack and Avoid she told the community members that what they were to learn about was related and she asked them that while they are learning to remind themselves or to do a self assessment of where each one of them fell and how it applies in there day to day lives. They looked at the characteristics of all these styles and some of those looked at were; 1. Aggressiveness which is relatively like Attacking behavior and the examples given were; overpowering others and this was in their speech and behaviors which is always looking for an opportunity to cause chaos . Also these people are also unapproachable , rude , selfish and only thinking about themselves, they look down on others, threatening , fighting among others. Lorna said that this is the worst communication behavior. 2. They also looked at Passive behavior which is related to Avoid the communication style. The characters here are; putting others first irrespective of what they think, apologizing a lot, giving in at the will of others that is not having a say of their own , remaining silent when others bother them among others. Lorna said this can be both and bad in a way that. It can be good in avoiding conflicts but can be bad in a way that their ideas are never heard or taken into consideration. 3. Lastly they looked at the thirdAssertiveness; this is the best communication behavior which is a balance between Passiveness and Aggressiveness. This person Respects themselves as well as others, listens first before talking which is very important in communication, being confident but not pushy, telling someone exactly what you want without coming across as rude. Conclusion The meeting ended 30 minutes earlier as the chairman had requested Lorna since they had another community meeting after the lesson.
