Notes
Tom made a visit to kisiro village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as to see how they have maintained during the holiday period. When Tom reached the village he found when the vhts were waiting at the meeting place in the trading center. They first held a small meeting to discuss about the sanitation situation in the village from the different sections of the village. One vht gave a report of the improvements made in isamba village where she reported of four new latrines that were constructed during the Christmas period. One resident gave a report about the section across the primary school were he said three homes were constructed and one of them is for an elderly woman. The vht from the trading center also gave a report about the four new latrines that were constructed during the Christmas period. Even though there has been some progress, he said that there are still some residents who still have not finished there latrines. After his report, the whole group including Tom decided on the section to visit and due to the scotching sun, they all agreed to visit the trading center section on both sides of the trading center. They targeted homes that had new latrines to see what standards the latrines were in as well as those that still had not finished there latrines. In one home next to the mosque, they found the resident had finished his latrine and had set up a hand washing facility as well. No person was found in this home but they talked about informing the resident of some of the changes he needs to add to his latrine to make it stronger. In another section they found two new latrines both for the two homes. Before, one of the homes did not have a latrine while the other home had a latrine that was filled up. During the Christmas break the men from both homes encouraged one another to help each other and dig pits as well as constructing on them. They were both happy that they got latrines each. In two other homes they found two new latrines and one of them the vht from the section was also surprised that it was there. The resident from the home was very happy for her new latrine. She was so thankful to kibo for the efforts it has put in to encourage her husband to get his family a latrine. In other homes that had pits, they were encouraged to finish the pits and construct on them.
