Notes
Enock, visited this community to check on the progress of sanitation and hygiene. He met with the chairman LC1 as well as the VHTs to lay a strategy for the new year, check on which homes have improved ever since we went for Christmas break, check on which homes are still constructing, digging latrines, encouraging and guiding them how to construct good standard facilities which are sustainable and avoid repeating the same work. We walked around to continue sensitizing the community to improve on their sanitation, taught them the benefits and core values of sanitation in the whole community. There are some good latrines which I saw in the trading centre, shower areas, kitchen areas, clean compounds, smeared homes, dug rubbish pits to clean compounds. Enock encouraged all the local leaders to come on board to help all their village residents to work hard and improve hard to maintain and increase the sanitation of the whole village. The community has embraced the program by constructing good standard facilities with brick and some are using cement to construct structures which will last longer. There is an old gentleman who for a very longtime didn’t have a latrine. He has been using the near by bush and swamp. His neighbors gave us a testimony and appreciated the work of teaching such people and it’s their first time to own a latrine. When i spoke to the family members they were so happy to have a latrine and use it. As we continued walking around we taught the importance of using ash in latrines, we also demonstrated in one latrine which had many flies. The people saw how flies ran out of the latrine and no smell. The people were amazed how the latrine stopped smelling and flies went out.
