- Notes
- Ida went to Bupeni and taught about the basic steps which can help prevent tooth decay. She started with a funny question, what are teeth?
Some people just smiled and showed their teeth, the rest knew what teeth are but couldn’t explain. She asked if there was any one who knows how to care for our teeth. Nakadama Teresa said that by smoking. She continued defending her answer that cigarette smoke kills germs because they cannot breath.
Maka said that brush every morning.
Nambozo said that she doesn’t think that it’s important children to brush because some time when they are four years they will loose them, why waste time and toothpaste? The whole group laughed disagreeing with her.
Ida cut the debate short and gave them some steps that will help prevent teeth problems.
. Brush your teeth 2 times a day with fluoride toothpaste.
. Cut down sugary foods and drinks.
. Do not smoke or chew tobacco.
. If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
Brush your teeth twice a day. Use a toothbrush with short bristles and toothpaste with fluoride. Brush in circles. Don’t forget to brush your tongue.
Get a new toothbrush every 3 to 4 months.
Nangobi was concerned about the toothpaste with fluoride. She thinks they don’t have that in the village. Ida asked the community to tell friends what they use as toothpaste. Nampeke said that they use salt and ash.
Ida encouraged the community to visit dental clinics regularly if at all there’s any.
