Notes
Enock went to check the progress of latrine construction mostly in homes in the trading centre which have where still in the process of latrine construction. They also drove back a family to their home which had come to town for treatment. When the family reached they called the chairman to receive this families since he was the one who was in-charge when they left the village to come to hospital in town. The patient had stayed in town for 6 days in town. The boy got a surgery in town and he is healing well. All the residents came to see the boy and appreciated the great work of kibo group. We called all the family members to explain to them how to collectively care for the boy to stay in a clean environment till the boy heals completely. After we had to walk around in home to check on latrine construction which was going on in some homes. We guided them how best they can construct the structures which are sustainable. For the homes that dug 30ft deep home we guided them to construct with cement, sand and make a proper foundation base for the latrine. As we continued walked around we sensitized the residents about the importance of good sanitation facilities, maintenance of the latrine, smear their facilities, uses ash in latrines p, use their rubbish pits effectively and burn if the trash is a lot. We also mobilized the residents to come for the next general meeting where Alex.W will be introducing the water program. Open defection which was everywhere in this community, has completely reduced since most families are now having latrines. Most of the ladies in this community are the happiest people, the reason behind that is that whenever they hold their men to dig latrines, they used to dodge it and responded to them with tough words. When most ladies got new latrines, they even feel more confident and comfortable to work, talk to their neighbors, walk in public than before when they used to get a shamed. They are so grateful for the good work and improvements which have occurred in the whole community. There has also been reduced cases of serious diarrhea, dysentery which were common. We are now focusing on just a few home which had pits and had promised to complete them.
