Notes
Harriet went to Nawandyo to introduce the stove program to the community. She did not find any one at the meeting place but as soon as she reached the chairman rode his bicycle around calling people for the meeting. Few people turned up and others were still busy in their gardens because it had rained the previous day so they were taking advantage of it to plant their crops. Harriet introduced the stove program to the members where by she started by asking them the challenges they go through while cooking. Some women said that they always cook under their husbands pressure who always want to eat food on time despite the lack of firewood and when ever food delays to get ready they beat them. One old woman said that they experience a lot of smoke that has caused them to suffer from eye related diseases and chest problem. In the meeting men also confessed that women do 90 percent of the work at home. Harriet tAught them how the stoves would help them to eliminate smoke in the kitchen ,save fuel and provide them with enough time to do other activities at home or even rest. They thanked Kibo for thinking about them and promised to work together with the stove program.
