Notes
Tom made a visit to igerera village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as hold a village meeting about iron sheet distribution and to also discuss about how to better construct a latrine with two pieces of iron sheets. When he arrived in the village, he visited the chairman’s home whom he found waiting for him. Tom first shared with the chairman about the current situation in the village as regards sanitation and hygiene. The chairman pointed out to Tom the recently constructed latrines as well as pointing out those homes that are still lagging behind. Tom encouraged the chairman to continue visiting and sensitizing those homes till they also have latrines and other facilities. After the discussion, they moved around from the lower section of the village towards the upper section where the meeting was to be held. Along the way as they moved, they visited many homes checking on the standards of the facilities but also encouraging residents of the better ways to construct. They found three new pits being dug and also found three newly constructed latrines. In one home Tom spoke about how to construct a roof of the latrine so that it’s strong and secure while in one home, they advised the resident on how to better dig a latrine pit deep and strong enough to resist collapse from the rains. Later they made it to the meeting place. At the meeting place, most of the residents appreciated what kibo has done in there village especially helping raising the standards of sanitation. On the issue of the iron sheets, the chairman requested the members who already finished there contributions to be patient and wait those planning to finish there contributions to do so before iron sheets are delivered. Tom also shared in the meeting about the standards of facilities such as dish racks, shower area, latrine etc. Tom also encouraged the committee members to also step up there efforts in raising the standards of there facilities. Tom also encouraged the rest of the members who wanted there iron sheets to be delivered to also be patient with there colleagues. After that meeting, Tom left for jinja.
