- Health lesson 5: Teeth Cleaning
- Notes
- Ida first did the preview of anger management lesson which they answered very well. Ida and Irene introduced oral care as the topic for the day Irene then asked then what are teeth?
Some members smiled and pointed to their teeth, others said that teeth are teeth. The conversation was good that members were laughing after knowing that they didn’t know what teeth were though they have them always.
Ida encouraged the community to go and research, ask older people and one who will give the right answer will get a treat.
Ida invited Irene to continue with the lesson as a trained nurse .
Irene defined teeth as strong white just like bones found in the mouth she then asked the community members the benefits of teeth, some members gave,”teeth help us to eat ,talk ,keep the mouth in shape, and on addition Irene explained the benefits of each kind of teeth in the mouth.
she said the premolars and molars(The last big teeth) help in grinding so that it’s easy to digest.
The canines(the two sharp teeth next to the big ones) are for tearing food especially hard things and these are both up and down, the teeth hold the cheeks and lips in place. With out the teeth the cheeks are able to ‘sink’ in the face, also important in speech as well.
The incisors also help in cutting.she then requested them to go research on the mode of cleaning and equipment for cleaning our teeth.
