Notes
Enock and Martin visited this community to check on the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, clean compounds and other facilities. They walked home to home to teach and educate the residents on the importance of sanitation facilities and usages. They taught residents how to dig proper latrine holes and emphasized the depth and standardization. As we walked with the chairman of this village we got a chance to walk in his homes of where we saw two latrines under construction. The chairman of this village initially had no latrine. During the triggering session he was the first person in this community to take the pick axes to start digging a latrine. The residents have all embraced the program positively and all busy working on different facilities in their homes. As we walked around, they taught the dangers of open defection and reminded them how much expenditure they make on treatment. During this time we talked about the many diseases like diarrhea that affect children and adults, dysentery, cholera which results due to open defection and poor sanitation. We encouraged and emphasized all the residents to work hard and improve on the sanitation levels. The community members are all realizing the need of transforming their village through sanitation. There are some ladies busy smearing their houses to improve on the standard of the walls of shower areas. There also new rubbish pits dug after the triggering session. We managed to cover a big portion of this community as we walked around sensitizing the residents to work hard and improve on the sanitation levels of their community.
