- Notes
- Suzan and Jessica went to the village purposely to guide the community members as they tried to build the energy saving stoves on their own.
When they arrived there, they met some community members on their way to the home where the demonstration process was going to be carried out. Together they walked to the home and found more members busy stamping the dirt which was going to be used for building the stove. The members welcomed Kibo staff to their village and after exchanging greetings,Jessica and Suzan joined them in stamping the dirt and later carried it into the kitchen. The members began building the stove step by step as Kibo staff guided them throughout the whole process. Jessica and Suzan kept on correcting their mistakes and answering their questions during the demonstration, this was important because some new members who joined the group a bit late needed to master the skills of building the stove without being left behind.
Jessica and Suzan also encouraged the community members to always smear their homes so that it could look neater and reduce dust and insects which would harm their lives. After building the stove,Kibo staff and the members moved around the village monitoring the facilities for the healthy and safe kitchen program such as the bathrooms, latrines, rubbish pits, kitchens and stoves. Jessica and Suzan requested members to always maintain and repair their facilities especially the kitchens and drying racks which were found in the bad state.
Later on after the monitoring process, Kibo staff thanked all the participants for taking part in building the demonstration stoves requesting them to continue with the same spirit of working together as a team for an effective development. The committee chairperson on behalf of the community thanked Kibo staff for the healthy and safe kitchen program, saying it would greatly improve on their healthy lives if they continue participating in all the program lessons.
