Notes
Ida and Irene went to Kitukiro to teach about Gender roles regarding children under maternal and infant health lesson. Aida started with a review of the previous lessons covered in the previous visits, Nelima talked about the Tongue, rearing chicken and other community members talked about the other lessons covered.then she started the new lesson with an ice breaking question that Ida and Irene normally use when starting this particular lesson.” Who is the owner of the children?” Nairuba said the child is for the man, waiswa said the child is for the woman since she delivered him or her, the other member said if the man was not there a woman wouldn’t get a child so it’s for a man. That argument brought excitement among the members and Ida invited Irene to clarify about the lesson and to help reach a conclusion on who owns a child. Irene thanked the community for the active participation and first said the children belong to God we the parents are keepers but on the earthly basis the children are for both a man and woman because it’s a man and woman that come together to make a child. It’s there fore their responsibility to care and raise them together. When dad punishes a child let mom be together with dad. If a child is punished by either parent, make sure the child does think the other parent loves them more.
