Notes
Alex’s visit to Kagulu village was to make sure that the village is ready and prepared for the drilling process that is expected soon in the village. He followed up with the water user committee to see if they had found a way to feed the workers, have all the contributions amounting to 300,000/= towards the borehole account and to be briefed about their presence and involvement during this process of borehole drilling. The water user committee plays a key role during this process making sure all the meals are available to feed the drillers and call on their fellow community members to be a part of this process whenever they are called upon. Sometimes the drillers need help with plenty of water that they use during this process and the community has to get the water on site. The water user committee chairman Mr. Kighanda Steven reported that all the money needed has been raised and they had discussed about how to feed the drillers already. Together they also moved to the site to be drilled and Alex told them to level the ant hill to allow smooth drilling. This will need collective community effort to clear this big ant hill. Alex had also gone to Kagulu to complete the signing of the land agreement but unfortunately the land owner had travelled some where and delayed to return. However he has already given out a portion of his land to drill a new borehole. Therefore the land agreement would be completed soon without any issues. Alex together with Steven Kighanda visited Jaliru’s new home, a new resident in the village that moved in from another village and he was guided and encouraged to have all the sanitation facilities required in a home like the rest of the people in the village. He promised to complete all the facilities in two days because he had bought the bricks to construct on his new pit latrine and roof his new kitchen too. The sub county chief is very happy that recently the sub county conducted a baseline survey in Kagulu village and selected Kagulu village with the highest latrine coverage in the sub county and there was no open defecation seen in the village. The sub county appreciated Kibo for the partnership and support to the sub county and other villages in the sub county. Drilling of the new borehole is expected any time this month and Alex will remain in touch with the drilling company and the community to make sure everything is moving well.
