Notes
Tom made a visit to Igerera village to check on improvements in facility construction and maintenance. When he arrived in the village, he went to the meeting place at the chairman’s home and met with the chairman and two committee members. During the short meeting they had before starting to move around the village, they reported of the new improvements being made in roofing as well as construction of the hand washing stands. The chairman said that ever since he constructed his hand washing stand, several people come to him to also learn more about the construction of the stand. He said so far three people had come to him and two of them had constructed there hand washing stands. He also decided to train another person from the upper section so that he trains the residents from the upper section. On the issue of roofing, Tom and the committee members found two other new latrines being constructed and one of them has already been roofed. There is a resident who decided to demolish his latrine so that he can be able to rebuild it again. Tom and the committee members found when he had finished constructing the structure and he was waiting for the walls to dry before he puts the roof on. Tom and the members encouraged his and thanked his for having the desire to improve on his latrine and his home as a whole. There was also an old man who they found when he had collected bricks for the construction of his latrine. In another home, they found when the latrine for the old lady has not yet been roofed. They asked her sons who committed that soon they will put a roof on the latrine. Later they moved to the upper section where they found residents in a savings group. Tom used the opportunity to encourage them about facility improvements. One man in the meeting spoke about why he had not yet roofed his latrine because his son had been very sick but now that he had improved, he said he was going to work together with his son to construct and roof the latrine. After meeting the members of the savings group, Tom left for jinja.
