Notes
Harriet, Jeska and Tape found the participants busy collecting the dirt from the anti hill for building stoves. The group warmly welcomed kibo staff with songs and dancing showing how excited they were for kibo. Kibo staff divided the community into two groups whereby one group went to Mutesi ‘s home while another one went to Namuwaya’s home( the two participants that the community had identified to get stoves for that day. Each group was led by kibo staff. Kibo staff mixed the dirt and grass at the ratio of 1:2 basins, asked the community to participate in stamping the dirt. This was intended to promote active participation and easy mastering of the skill of building stoves because practice makes perfect. When the dirt was ready kibo staff and the community made balls out of the dirt and moved it into the kitchen when the stoves were to be built. They later asked five people to enter in the kitchen at a time as kibo staff built the two demonstration stoves as they explained to them the whole process. It was nice to see everyone one in the group struggling to enter into the kitchen to watch and learn. After building the two demonstration stoves , kibo staff asked everyone in the group to draw on the ground how a complete stove looks like. Interested every one participated in drawing down a complete stove. Everyone in the group tried though no one got it right but it was a sign to show that they are interested and eager to learn. The community was very happy and thanked kibo for choosing their village for the Healthy and Safe kitchen program as well as giving them an opportunity to participate. They promised to actively get involved until they learn how to build stoves.
