Notes
Tom made a visit to igerera village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as facility constructions especially the roofing of latrines and the construction or improvements and maintenance of other facilities such as dish racks, shower facilities etc. when he arrived in the village, he found when the chairman had gone to a funeral of a village resident who died after was bitten by a dog. Also some residents had gone to attend. The burial had already taken place a day before but they were holding a meeting. Tom was welcomed by two other committee members who suggested that the chairman be called as he could not be reached by phone. One of the committee members moved to call the chairman as Tom and the other committee member waited at the chairman’s place. By this time it was drizzling so they could not move around as they waited for the others to arrive. After the chairman arrived and they started moving around even though it was drizzling. In the first three homes they saw that all the latrines were roofed as well as all other facilities were present in the homes. There is a new home recently constructed and the chairman urged the resident to finish his latrine because the pit is already done and only remaining construction. The resident agreed and said he was to pay his neighbor to help him with the construction. After they moved to the upper section were they found two other well roofed latrines. Tom and the committee members were very thankful and appreciative for what the residents had done. By this time it was still raining and it had increased so they took shelter at the residents home. They waited for about an hour and it was not stopping so Tom decided that they end and each committee member goes back to his family and Tom as well left for jinja. But during the time of waiting for the rain, Tom and the three committee members discussed about how to prepare for the trees as well as getting most residents to continue constructing the hand washing stands. The chairman said he was going to write all names of residents interested in trees as well as write all residents done with the hand washing stands and said he would have the list by Kibo’s next visit.
