Notes
Tom and Alex conducted a triggering session in Igerera B village. When they arrived in the village, they were welcomed by the village leadership . They gathered and discussed as they waited for other residents to gather. They after joined with the dram,a group shortly who went around the village dram,I got, dancing and singing as they mobilized the village. With ina short while, about 80 people had gathered. Because the weather was threatening to rain, Tom requested the chairman of the village to start the meeting and officially open the meeting. The chairman welcomed Alex and Tom and thanked kibo for coming to his village to promote sanitation and hygiene. Tom was invited to start the teaching and requested the drama group to perform one song and dance concerning sanitation and hygiene. They did so in a song and dance and after Tom started the facilitation of the triggering processes. Tom took the village through a session of mapping before entering into the fecal matter demonstration. Right after the mapping, it started raining heavily. The whole crowd dispersed and Tom and Alex as well as the drama group took shelter in one of the homes. After 40mins of rain, it slowed down but did not stop. While it was drizzling, they all decided that they restart the triggering session in another location across the road as the first place was muddy. This was also led by the drama group which once again attracted many children and older people back to the triggering place. Tom took the group through the fecal matter demonstration and cycle, diseases identification. Alex took the village through medical expense calculation, death/burial calculation, and facility standards. During this while time the rain was drizzling. While the triggering session was going on, the government vehicle was passing by which had the district water officer. He offered to stop and also addressed the crowed where he spoke about kibo and the sanitation program. He also urged the community to work together to end open defecation. He also thanked kibo for the work it’s doing in the villages of Namutumba. Later Tom took the crowd through the session of deadline selection for the program before handing over the tools that kibo has supported them with to improve their sanitation and hygiene standards. The village through the show of hands chose the use three months to improve on their sanitation and hygiene. Also a sanitation committee was selected to promote sanitation and hygiene improvements in the village. Later Tom and Alex gave them the pick axes and shovels on show Kibo’s commitment to the village in sanitation and hygiene improvements. After Tom and Alex left for jinja.
