Notes
Introduction The time it takes HIV to turn into Aids can be determined by our very own behaviors hence Disease Progression and Positive behavior. It is important to know that when one takes care of themselves well, it is possible to only have HIV minus AIDs. Overview Lorna went here to teach on Disease Progression and positive behavior. Disease progression is the time it takes for HIV to turn into AIDs. The stages involved during this period are ; Window period, Incubation period and honeymoon period. Window period is the time it takes between infection and when he/she develops enough antibodies to turn up. This stage usually takes two weeks to 3-6 months. The person is very infectious at this stage. Here is where Lorna urged the community members not to get tested once but to test 3 or 4 times as they have been advised by the medical personnel. Incubation period is the time it takes for different signs to show that one is infected with HIV. These signs can take up to 15 years or even more before anyone can suspect anything that that person is suffering from HIV. This is also because the person is taking very good care of themselves , getting medication and eating healthy. The third stage which is the honey moon stage is the end of the window period and the end of the incubation period. Here the person is living in relative harmony with the virus and is also less infectious, pregnant mothers also have less chance of passing the virus on to their babies. After looking at the stages, they looked at what positive behaviors persons living with HI/AIDS should adapt in order to live long and healthy lives. Lorna asked the members what some of those things are. They are also called Co-Factors they mentioned ; to stop smoking, drinking, eat a balanced diet, avoid stress, do some exercises. Also avoiding reinfection of HIV by having sex without a condom with an infected partner. Challenges Some members were going to a funeral and so the meeting was not well attended. Conclusion Lorna concluded by encouraging those members who have not yet got tested to know their status to do so for their own sake and the sake of their families. Lorna told them that she will be returning Friday 10.
