- Notes
- Enock and Martin made a visit to this community to follow up on latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen area, hand washing station and emphasizing the uses of all these facilities. When we reached, we met the local leaders to talk about which section we should walk to and needs more emphasis. They selected two section and we agreed to visit all of them. We first walked in the lower section were we saw six new latrines constructed well with bricks and well smeared. We taught them lessons of using ash in their latrines to reduce the bad smell, chase flies and demonstrated how to use ash by sprinkling in the latrine then after sweep everything inside the pit.
All the families embraced the sanitation and hygiene program, sharing pick axes and shovels so that everyone can have a good latrine. As we discussed with the residents about dangers of open defecation reminded them about diseases like diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, dysentery and may more diseases which bring a lot of expenses which have led to continuous poverty in many homes. Despite the recent rains, many community members are working on improving their sanitation.
There are many new dish racks, many new hand washing stations build, some people have put jerrycans on them and using. We reminded the community the benefits of good sanitation and hygiene.
All the residents are working hard to construct a good latrine in their home. The chairman of this community didn’t have a latrine initially but recently he started digging one after being challenged by his fellow residents and him getting ashamed.
