Notes
In Kisiro, WASH team is still following up on those specific homes that haven’t yet met the sanitation standards and still encouraging them to do so. Alex and the two sanitation committee members focused on the families in the lower part of the village and on a good note, six families have completed their new pit latrines. These include; Hassan Mbwire, Yakubu Balabyeki, Jowali, Isima, Wilson and Joel. These families had been for along time not done anything and now they have managed to complete digging their new pits. Yakubu in particular is replacing an old pit latrine that got swept away by the recent rains recently. The lower part of kisiro village extends to the swamp and this makes it a big challenge for some people to dig pit latrines. It was also noted that there is a high sense of village sanitation ownership due to the fact that some people have taken the initiative to replace their sanitation facilities that get damaged by the rains being that most part of Kisiro is sandy and whenever it rains, there is a tendency of facilities like pit latrines sinking in and falling apart. Kiyemeba Joseph and Mugolobi Ronald have replaced their facilities during this rain season and many others have done so most especially the pit latrines. In general majority of the people that had completed their sanitation facilities have tried to maintain them. The Village leaders and the sanitation committee have been encouraged to continue moving around the village to tell their fellow residents to keep up the good sanitation standards. The WASH team will go back to have a special meeting with the leaders about a way forward to have everyone in the village keep the sanitation standards and update the remaining homes into the third evaluation.
