- Notes
- Harriet found the participants waiting at the meeting place ready to be taught how to remove banana stems from the built stoves.
The group were excited to see kibo staff in their village and they welcomed her with with songs of joy and dancing.
Harriet practically removed banana stems from two previously built stoves as she explained the whole process to the community. She also encouraged them to ask questions where they did not understand so that she can give further explanation.
One woman Namaganda asked kibo staff that what would happen in cases they leave the banana stem in the whole that takes smoke outside. Harriet explained to them that this will affect the effectiveness of the stove because smoke will always remain inside thus causing chest and eye diseases. She encouraged them always to ensure that all the five banana stems are taken out leaving five holes for the stove to be effective.
The community was very excited when they saw these two complete stoves and one of the members asked whether she can start cooking on her stove the following day. Harriet told her to wait for one month from the day the stove was built to prevent it from cracks. She also told them to try to remove banana stems from at least one stove a day before the next meeting so that she can correct their mistakes Incase of any.
