Notes
Kibo staff together with the internees from United States of America went to kalitumba village to teach the community how to practically build stoves. They found the participants eagerly waiting for them at one of the home where the demonstration stove was to be built. They received them with with songs of joy while dancing showing teamwork and how excited they are to receive kibo in their village. The community had already stamped the dirt for two stoves and moved it in the kitchen ready to be taught how to build stoves. Kibo staff looked at the dirt but it was not ready for building stoves. Harriet divided the community into two groups whereby each group was joined by kibo staff and the internees. They re- stamped the dirt together with the community as a sign of correcting the mistakes. After kibo staff built two demonstration stoves as they explained the whole process while the community was watching. They asked them to pay attention and ask questions where they did not understand because Kibo’s goal is to empower them with a skill so that they are able to build stoves on their own and scale out to the neighboring communities. When the community Show complete stoves they were very happy and thanked kibo for implementing the healthy and Safe kitchen program in their village.
