Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan, Ida, Irene, Kate,Bethany,Carrisa and Aliya went to the village purposely to thank the community members for participating in the Healthy and Safe Kitchen program activities and also to discuss the way forward after the program. When they arrived there they found the members gathered at the meeting place under a mango tree next to the chairperson’s home. The members happily welcomed Kibo staffs to the village and without wasting time, they all agreed and first walked around the village visiting home to home while monitoring the program facilities. Most of the members had improved in their sanitation and smeared all their houses while others were in the process of repairing some of their facilities such as the shower areas, latrines, kitchens, rubbish pits and dish racks. And after the monitoring process, Kibo staffs and the community went back and settled down for a meeting under a mango tree. The Committee chairperson madam Kansiime opened the meeting with a prayer and then went ahead making reports about the activities that were carried out so far, such as building more stoves for their members at the neighboring village which also turned out to be one of their income generating activities. Kibo staffs thanked the members for the good work done and encouraged them to always maintain the same spirit of helping others improve on their healthy lives. Kibo staffs also thanked the members for involving themselves in all the program activities such as repairing and building strong latrines, shower areas, dish racks, kitchens, stoves and smearing all their houses. For this would aid them live a better healthy life together with their families. And because of the good work done by the community, Kibo group gave the members a few gifts as a sign of appreciation such as two large saucepans which they would use for cooking during community events, and also each member received a piece of soap signaling sanitation and hygiene. The community got so excited for the gifts they received and promised to always maintain all their healthy and sanitation facilities as much as possible. Together they got up and begun dancing and singing songs of praises. The meeting then came to an end with a prayer from one of the community leaders and Kibo staffs left the village.
