- Notes
- Harriet found when the participants had already gathered all the materials needed for building stoves in one place. They were eagerly waiting for her to guide / instruct them as they try to build stoves on their own.
The community had already identified four participants among themselves to be on the ( more active ) as Harriet guides them.
Harriet asked the participants to start practicing the process of building stoves. They successfully mixed the dirt and grass at the ratio of 2:1, stamped it until the concert was properly mixed while dancing singing songs about teamwork.
The four participants that the community asked to lead on that day, measured the banana stems as other members were busy making balls and moving them to the kitchen. They started building the stove on their own, while Harriet was watching identifying their mistakes while fixing them.
The first mistake was they had wanted to place the stove behind the kitchen door
Which would require some one to remain inside the kitchen blowing fire while cooking which will be time consuming.
Harriet encouraged them to shift the stove and they did so.The group worked together to build the stove but had not put the banana stem to create the vent for smoke. Harriet corrected it and reminded them that in case the vent is not created smoke will always remain inside the kitchen since there is no way to let it out.
With the help of Harriet a stove was finally built. She encouraged them to keep on practicing because practice makes perfect because Kibo’s goal is to ensure that they learn to build stoves in order to build for other people in the community and to scale out in order to earn some money.
The community was very happy when they the stove they tried to build on their own ,thanked kibo for giving them a chance and promised to keep on practicing until they become perfect.
