Notes
Before they started the meeting, Tom and three committee members moved around the homes in the upper section where they found out that some latrines had collapsed due to heavy rains. When they reached in the homes, they found that in both homes, the residents had started on new pit for the new latrines. One pit was about 8ft while the other in the next home was about 5ft deep. Tom and the committee members thanked the residents for being proactive in sanitation and hygiene. Tom also encouraged them to get better roofing materials as it was because the latrines were not well roofed that they collapsed. Later they moved to the lower section were they were able to see new hand washing facilities. Some of them were not well constructed and Tom guided them on how to construct the hand washing stands. Tom also encouraged them to use cement if they are to make the hand washing stands stronger and long lasting. Tom also noted that the resident on the upper section have maintained there facilities like the latrines and showers. He encouraged them to continue improving. While in the meeting, the committee members resolved that they were to divide up the village into different section and each section will have a representative who will help in the lead towards improving hand washing by guiding and helping residents construct the hand washing stands. Different representatives were selected for each section. Tom also encouraged them to sensitize the residents about the Connection between the latrine and hand washing that both facilities and activities go together. Tom encouraged the committee members to work hard and improve the hand washing in the village as it’s a part of sanitation and hygiene. After meeting Tom left for jinja,
