Notes
Tom reached the village and together with the vhts, they visited some homes and found great improvements in sanitation and hygiene. They visited about 16 homes and later came back to the meeting place for the meeting. In the homes visited, they found new latrines just finished. In four homes there were new latrines as well as 8 dish racks constructed. They also found some residents improving on the kitchen of their homes. In one of the homes, they found young boys from the village helping a resident to construct a dish rack while in one, the family members had decided to construct a new latrine as well as a new hut for their grand mother. One resident had not finished the construction of his latrine but said he was just waiting on getting bricks to start the construction and this was an issue with most of the homes that had not yet finished their latrines. After moving around the village, Tom and the vhts went to the meeting place to discuss about the program as well as benefits and challenges. Many residents during the meeting appreciated what kibo has done in the village and one lady in particular spoke testified that they can no longer see feaces in the village because many people have constructed latrines. Another resident who is the vice chairman of the village has finally started on his latrine. He said he was going to construct a 4 room latrine for the centre. This brought laughter to the residents and many of them openly thanked him for the commitment he has shown because not many expected him to ever construct a latrine. After discussing about sanitation and hygiene, Tom shared about the desire and purpose of helping one another in times of trouble. Tom shared about the need to help the young boy who is blind after having an accident. Residents were very appreciative about the idea and together they started contributing money as well as those that did not have that time, promised to bring. Together they were able to collect 18000/= as well as Tom's contribution included. Tom after the meeting left for Jinja but encouraged them to maintain and promote hygiene and sanitation during the Christmas season and even improve more.
