- Notes
- Tom made a,visit to igerera A village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as facility construction. Tom was in the upper section along the main road checking on improvements in sanitation and hygiene.
When he arrived the village, he was joined by the chairman and the committee members at one of the residents homes near the public store.
While they were there, they checked on two homes were they found that both residents were progressing well with there latrine constructions. One resident is a young man who has been using his fathers latrine until recent that the father told him to dig and construct his own latrine for his home. The resident had gone about 6ft while his neighbor had already finished the construction of the concrete floor. The chairman also offered to help the resident with bricks at a cheaper price so that he constructs the brick structure of the latrine.
There was another old resident who also had started on his latrine and was at a depth of about 10ft. He said he was waiting on the person digging the pit to finish so that the construction starts. He also complained to the chairman of the person digging for him being slow and not fulfilling his promises. The chairman offered to discuss with the person digging so that he finishes the pit for the old resident. In the corner away from the main road towards the lower section, three other residents had started on the pits and Tom discussed with them about the method of constructing using mud and logs to secure the logs on the pit as well as to help control the progress of termites. The residents were thankful and offered to help each other as they dig the pits.
