Notes
Tom made a visit to mpumiro village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements through the construction of sanitation facilities. On his arrival, he found some of the committee members attending a village meeting at the primary school. Nevertheless, two of the committee members offered to move around with Tom to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements. They started from the section around the primary school along the main road. They found new facilities being constructed as well as pits being dug. Tom also encouraged those digging the pits about the best way to dig them as well as encouraging them about the right depth. In one home, two boys offed to dig a pit for their home. One was about 14 years and the other 12. They were very happy and proud to show Tom the pit they had dug. Tom appreciated them and encouraged them to also encourage other boys in the village to do so for there families especially families with elderly people. One of the boys said he wants to dig the pit to a,depth of 20ft but Tom discouraged him from doing so as it may be so risky for him. Tom advised him to dig to a depth of 15 or request an older person to help. There were also homes with new pits, dish racks as well as homes with plans to construct new kitchens.
