Notes
Introduction Teaching pupils about cure or treatment is very important because this lesson enables the pupils to understand that there is no cure for HIV but people are depending on treatment (ARVs) this lesson will also teach them to take good care of them selves. Manuela also taught about activities that can not lead to HIV transmission and also she taught about positive living and behavior change. Objective - By the end of the day, pupils will be able to know what is difference between cure and treatment. - By the end of the lesson, pupils will understand which activities can lead to HIV transmission or not. - By the end of the lesson, pupils will know what should be practice so that people live longer with the virus. Overview Manuela reached the school with the visitors, pupils from different class rooms where very happy to see them, Manuela went with the visitors to the headmistress office to sign, after that they went to Life Skills class, pupils were very happy to see them, Manuela greeted the pupils after she requested them to seat down then the visitors introduced them selves to them. After that, Manuela started by asking the pupils about previous lessons which they learnt, pupils were able to share their ideas which was good. Quickly Manuela introduced the new lesson cure and treatment. Manuela started by asking the pupils that what cure and treatment? The pupils tried to answer in their local language but in English it was hard, so Manuela explained for that cure mean that the disease has been completely eliminated from the body systems and will never come back unless the person reinfect him or her self again. Manuela went on and also told the pupils that treatment means use of medicine injections to eliminate disease from the body just. Manuela also told the pupils that some virus can be cured but some virus like HIV can only be treated. After explaining that , Manuela went on and also explained that co factor activities that can not lead to HIV for example she told the pupils that when they hug, check hands, seat and eat with them or talking to HIV infected person they will not catch the virus. Manuela went on and also explained to them that they should not fear them actually they should be close to them if they are not harmful. After that Manuela went on and taught the pupils about positive living and behavior change for example Manuela asked the pupils that what is positive living? One of the pupil said that it means taking medication in time that was great, Manuela asked the pupils to claps their hand for the boy who gave an answer. After that Manuela explained to the pupils that positive living means the state at which an HIV positive person is living with the virus harmoniously for example, taking medication in time and following the dose, eating well balanced diet food , having enough rest, treating all sexually transmitted diseases in time, doing exercise, being social and associating with people and avoiding reinfection. Finally, Manuela told the pupils to take that information home and share with their parents and guidance.
