Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan went to the village to monitor the stove usage and the maintenance of the other Healthy and Safe Kitchens facilities such as the shower areas, dish racks, pit latrines and kitchens. When she got there, she met some of the program committee members at the trading center sitting and discussing matters concerning their hygiene and sanitation in their community. The members welcomed Suzan and after exchanging greetings, they walked together around the village visiting home to home while monitoring the facilities. Some members had greatly improved on their general sanitation and hygiene within their homes such as building stronger dish racks, smearing their kitchens, stoves, shower areas, latrines and digging up new rubbish pits. This was so encouraging to see while other members were in the process of repairing and smearing their homes. Some members had cracks on their stoves meaning that they had taken long without smearing them as well as their kitchen floors and walls. Suzan kindly requested the members to always see that they repaired and smeared all their houses and stoves at least once in a while so that the entire homes would look much more neater and healthy. Other stoves were found with too much ash packed inside, hence not cooking food faster. Suzan again requested them to always take out the ashes so that the stoves would catch fire easily and cook faster. The members were so grateful for the advice given that day and the meeting came to an end wishing Suzan a safe journey back home.
