- Notes
- Enock and Martin made a visit to this community to check on the sanitation progress. They were to focus in the lower section of the village where many people where still digging new latrine pits and constructing other facilities. They also focused on emphasizing the residents to work hard and encourage all the local leaders to monitor and mobilize their fellow residents to improve sanitation and hygiene. I was so impressed to see some people with good brick latrine and concrete slabs. They taught the residents about the core importance of sanitation improvement and reminded the residents about the many diseases which are caused due to poor sanitation. As we continued sensitizing about the many challenges, we continued educating the residents about the amount of many they spend on medication expenditure and all brought up by poor sanitation. They also walked in some homes in the trading centre where the chairman of the village comes from to also encourage the people to dig deep latrine pits since there is limited space for expansion on land. The people who are renting houses in the trading centre were encouraged to talk to their landlord to construct good standard structures and use other resources for development. The community members are embracing the program and willing to change from there old behaviors of open defecation to use if latrine. There are also some new dish racks, shower areas, kitchen areas, which are under construction. We also encouraged people to smear and also use of ash in their latrines since many people cook with wood and had many flies in their latrines.
