Notes
Alex with four visitors were in Naibowa to check on sanitation improvements and facility standards in the village. They moved home to home checking on all sanitation facilities in the homes that were still struggling. The four visitors from Canada included Sandy, Falon’s friend and three others. There were some great improvements in some of the homes that were previously struggling. An example was Makonzi who was met working on his new kitchen and also completed the pit latrine structure. However it’s the wife being very hard working more than the man. Wakasanke is working on his new kitchen after the old one was very dangerous. Mutono completed his new pit and managed to dig up to 50ft. There were also new standard dish racks seen in the homes being constructed with bamboo sticks. Alex also met with the village leaders and some of the sanitation committee members and had a discussion about the people that have contributed money to buy iron sheets and roof their pit latrines. A total of 46 people had contributed money and Alex advised them to select one village leader to bring that contribution to Jinja and agreed to bring in the money on Friday with the church leader and three other village committee members coming to attend the Busoga wide conference. The visitors were also very happy seeing the village working together, visited the public primary school to meet with the teachers and kids.and seeing new facilities in the homes that were visited. The village leaders and the sanitation committee members were encouraged to continue encouraging the rest of the people that haven’t met the standards to improve as well. Extra effort is however needed to encourage the people to have hand washing stations and using them. This will be the focus in the next visits
