- Notes
- Enock and Martin visited this community to check on the progress of latrine construction and other facilities. They walked around the village to check on the new facilities being constructed and also to encourage the residents who already completed to smear their facilities, emphasize the use of ash and its importance, teach the benefits of good sanitation facilities and standardization of each facilities. It was so good to visit the Chairman’s home first before we visited other homes, since he was also digging his new latrine pit. Martin encouraged him to be more exemplary to the rest of the community members by constructing good standard facilities which will also boost his confidence. During the visit, Enock sensitized the residents to continue working hard, move away from their old behaviors to new ones of using latrines not practicing open defecation. He based his teaching on shame by using some of the examples of people who used to practice open defecation in their homes hence bring many diseases to their families thinking they were cursed yet it was there problem. Most people when they have sickly children think their Neighbors are be-witching them, yet they don’t realized that open defecation bring so many diseases to their lives. The people felt empowered and vowed to improve on their sanitation as well as teaching their kids the importance of having all these facilities in their homes.
