Notes
Tape, Jessica and Suzan went to kagulu purposely to teach the community how to remove the banana stems from the fuel efficient stoves. When they got there, the met one of the members on her way to the home where the stoves were built and she led them there. The members were all gathered in one place ready for the demonstration to be carried out. Kibo staff divided the members into two groups so that it would enable each one to watch critically as the stems were removed from the fuel efficient stoves. Each group went to two different homes where the stoves were built previously and Kibo staff began taking out the stems step by step while explaining the process to the members. They also kept on explaining to the members the reason as to why the stems would only be taken out from the stove after one week of building, because at this time the stove would have dried up a bit making the holes stronger and firm. Suzan informed the members to also begin cooking on their stoves after one month from the day it was built and to keep smearing it so as to avoid cracks. Finally, the stems were taken out from two stoves that day and the members thanked Suzan for the lessons taught and wished her a safe journey back home.
