Notes
This visit was to specifically emphasize on the importance of hand washing in the village. Alex met with the leaders and the sanitation committee to start rolling out the the new design of hand washing station in the village as well as encouraging all people to embrace hand washing habit after visiting the pit latrine. A few people have the old hand washing stations called tippy taps still in place but majority complain that the small Jerrycans are stolen at night when left outside by those culprits dealing in plastic scrap. The new design being promoted in the village is an option to try solve the issue of small hand washing Jerrycans being stolen by plastic dealers since tippy taps can easily be stolen while the new design helps one to keep a Jerrycan in the house at night and bring out in the morning. All the leaders and sanitation committee agreed to prioritize this from now on to encourage all the people to construct hand washing stations in their homes and continue to encourage more about hand washing after using the pit latrine. They continued to follow up on the people that were working to improve their sanitation and met a new pit latrine under construction. A 50ft pit latrine belongs to Mutono Stephen and was found building a permanent structure on it. Together with the sanitation committee, he continued to encourage the village people to ensure maintaining the facility standards. They moved to Bufesa section to meet 4 people that are still lagging behind and encourage them to complete their facilities. WASH will continue to visit the village to guide them on facility standards as well as encouraging them to construct hand washing stations.
