Notes
Introduction
Lorna went back to this village to remobilize the community members for the Life Skills Program.
Overview
Lorna went to the Paul’s home a VHT whom they sat together and talked about a new approach in getting the community members to attend the lessons consistently. Lorna talked to Paul about involving more people to mobilize community members and not Paul doing it alone. Paul mentioned the person in charge of information although he said right now she is heavily pregnant. Lorna also encouraged him to not only move in specific homes or few homes as before but move home to home mobilizing the community members as these lessons are for everyone and not a few people. The meeting was about how to get more people on board attending the lessons. Lorna had paused going to this village because of inconsistency in attendance of the community members. They then decided to move around home to home mobilizing the community members for the next lesson but also checking on their sanitation and hygiene and stoves usage and she was also able to see the trees delivered.
After moving around , they sat down at the usual meeting place with Paul asking him what is the current most pressing need in the community. He mentioned the youth taking drugs, challenges in the family roles and responsibilities but as they were still discussing, women came in one by one and Lorna made fun about them saying she did not come to teach and yet they were coming to the meeting. This was also because Lorna did not call them but just made a suprise visit. They discussed the different challenges they are facing but when Lorna asked the most pressing current need they said Family planning. When Lorna asked what about it?, they said they are experiencing different side effects and they don’t know what to do. They asked Lorna which was the best and Lorna asked them to share their experiences on what they were each using and when someone said injectaplan was the best , someone using injectaplan said no it brings about inconsistency of menstruals and when it comes to taking it out it hurts so bad. Another lady says there is no best but it depends on how ones body accepts it and reacts to it. Others said they used it but after a year still gave birth and yet they were told otherwise. Lorna thanked them for their reactions and told them to mobilize themselves on the next visit that she will be bringing them someone to teach them on all these family planning methods, side effects and what they can do about it.
Conclusion
Lorna believes this will draw more people to attend and this will open way for more community participation. Under Life Skills Program this would be under Gender roles and responsibilities therefor after this lesson on family planning, Lorna will continue with the gender roles topic. They also discussed on the time and agreed to meet at 1pm.
