Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Tape, Jessica and Suzan went to the village to teach the members how to remove the banana stems from the fuel efficient stoves. When they arrived there, they found the members gathered at the meeting place together with their leaders. The healthy and safe kitchens program committee chairperson welcomed Kibo staff on behalf of the community, and after exchanging greetings and discussing about the program activities carried out, the members divided themselves into three groups with each led by a Kibo staff. The groups went separate ways in three different homes and Kibo staff requested the members to enter into the kitchens so that each one would at least be able to watch how the banana stems were taken out from the stoves. Dividing groups also made it easier for each member to learn easily without squeezing one another in the kitchens especially the elderly people and old ones. Kibo staff began removing the stems step by step as they explained to the members and they informed them to only do so after one week of building the stove because it would have dried up by that time. Members would also begin cooking on their stoves once it made one month from the day it was built. Kibo staff requested the members to always maintain all their facilities such as smearing them at least twice or once in a month so that they lasted longer and looked neater. They members were so grateful for the lessons that day and wished Kibo staff a safe journey back home.
