Notes
Introduction Lorna went here to continue with the communication skills topic but this time on the importance of parents communicating with their children and the impact it plays in their upbringing. Overview Lorna started by reviewing the previous lesson which was importance of communication generally. Here she asked the community members to remind her of what some of the importance’s of communication were and they mentioned ; Peoples needs are met, conflict resolution, creates strong family bonds, discouraged rumor mongers among others. Lorna then started on the topic of the day which was how do we communicate to our children , the importance of communicating to our children. Some parents said if they don’t listen they shout at them which is aggressiveness and that is not the right way to talk to the child because then they don’t understand what you want or are communicating but sitting them down and making them understand exactly what one as a parent wants or won’t tolerate is more than talking aggressively. This also teaches the child to understand what is right and wrong. By communicating to our children for example when they are annoyed and the parent asks why are you annoyed here is the opportunity where they get to talk to their children how to manage their emotions and also understand why the other person did what they did. The lesson was going on well but unfortunately it started to rain and some members ran back to their homes and a few stayed but since it was an important lesson Lorna asked they continue from here on the next visit. Conclusion Community members appreciated the lesson very although someone said how about the grownup children?. Lorna said it’s never too late to talk to our children. Lorna will start from here on the next lesson.
