Notes
Suzan and Jessica went to the village to build the first demonstration stove. When they got there, they found the members gathered at the meeting place next to the mosque with some of their leaders. The members got so excited on seeing Kibo staff and the program chairperson Mr.Joseph informed them how they had already prepared the materials for building the first fuel efficient stove such as the hoes, pangas, shovel, saucepans, jerrycans of water, wheelbarrow, basins, spades and banana stems. And without wasting much time, they stood up and went to the home where the stove was going to be built and together began fetching the dirt from the termite anthill while carrying it to the compound near the kitchen. Kibo staff requested the members to stand aside and watch critically as they measured the grass and dirt mixing 5basin of grass and 10basins of dirt. It was then mixed up and the water sprinkled all over it till it got soaked enough. The members joined in stamping the dirt together with Kibo staff, they sang and danced throughout until it got ready. Thereafter, the dirt was carried into the kitchen and the members stood aside as they watched Kibo staff begin to build the stove. Before they started building, they requested the members to keep asking questions where they didn’t understand, for this would help them learn easily. Kibo staff began building the stove step by step while explaining each step to the members because it enabled everyone to learn the skills. One stove was finally built that day and the members were so grateful for the lessons taught and went ahead singing and dancing. Kibo staff thanked all the members for gathering that day and requested them to continue looking and cutting the grass for the next demonstration stove as well as to keep smearing and improving on their facilities. The meeting then came to an end wishing each other a happy healthy stay.
