- Notes
- Suzan, Jessica and Tape went to the village to teach the community members how to remove the banana stems from the old stoves. When they got there, they went to the meeting place and found the community members and their leaders gathered at the meeting place.
Kibo staff was warmly welcomed to the village and after exchanging greetings, the members divided themselves into two groups and went to different homes where the stoves were previously built . Each group which was led by Kibo staff participated in the activity such as piercing and twisting the stems so as to make them softer and move out from the stove easily.
This was important because the members needed to master the skill perfectly which was also one of the main steps in building the stove. Kibo staffs kept on explaining to the members the reason as to why the stems were to be removed after one week of building, saying the stove would have dried up by that time making the entries stay firm.
After taking out the stems, the members participated in smearing the stoves to avoid cracks which would come out in future and Kibo staff reminded them to always maintain their stoves by smearing them at least once after every two weeks so as to avoid cracks and dust.
Finally the stems were successfully taken out from two stoves that day and the members thanked Kibo staff for the lessons taught that day. The all said fair well to each other and the meeting came to an end.
