caring for trees
Notes
Alex and Chris visited Nabituluntu village and had a meeting with 16 men and 17 women from different homes, the meeting was intended to discuss about how to care for trees. Every member had a chance to show everyone the trees he/she planted and also explain how they are caring for the trees, this was done so because we wanted everyone to learn from each other and also build relationship among the members. Alex and Chris walked from home to home together with the community members seeing how the trees were planted , this was done to create a spirit of ownership among the community, to tell them that the trees belonged to them and they will only benefit from them only when they take good care of the trees. One of the members called Mr Tegu Tomas who planted 6 mvule trees said he was happy watching his trees grow, Alex advised him that as he watched his trees grow well, he should do the same to his family, everyone was encouraged by Mr Tegu’s gesture and promised to take care of their families like they do to their trees. All the trees were growing well, the only challenge was putting cages around the trees, Alex and Chris demonstrated to the community members how to build cages around the trees and from the meeting all the members headed straight to their gardens to cage their trees. Alex mobilized the members for the next visit, he said the next visit would be about caring for trees because this is the most critical stage of the tree.
