Notes
Harriet made a surprise visit to Nawandyo B and this was intended to find out whether participants have embraced the program, have smeared their facilities,or are using the stoves on daily basis. She was led by waiswa a member of the stove committee in that village. She walked through the homes inspecting the stoves and she found when most participants were using their stoves on daily basis and this was incidences by the absence of the three stone fire in all the kitchens she visited. Also most homes were well smeared as well as the stoves. Members told Harriet that have seen a very big difference from the time they started using stoves that is: less firewood being used, absence of smoke in the kitchen, food cooks very first since they are able to cook two things at go compared to the three stone fire. One man called Magoba Mahemed told Harriet that their wives are now organized and smart. He added that as a result of the stove they can now bath after garden work and cook because the kitchen is free from smoke. He said that at times he is also attracted to go in the kitchen and cook food with his wife together. This was interesting to see men who used to think that the kitchen is for only the women to have decided to start helping their wives counter parts to prepare food for the family and also acknowledging the change the stove has brought in their village. Harriet encouraged them to maintain the program and also to help others in the neighboring communities so that they can also get better.
