Notes
Enock and Martin visited this community to check on the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, hand washing sanitation, rubbish pits, kitchen areas and more others. There is a section in this village which has greatly improved with many new facilities in their homes, we were so happy since there was no home with any open defecation. During the discussion we encouraged the residents in this particular section to use cement for their shower areas and also contribute money to buy iron sheet roofs which are stronger and sustainable instead of using grass or even leaving the top of the structures not roofed. The people seemed to like the idea and Willing to pay for the iron sheets. Enock and Martin used it as an advantage to encourage the residents to also encourage their fellow members in the community to know the benefits and disadvantages which have brought many diseases and increased poverty since they spend a lot on medication and less on savings. The chairman of the village and VHTs appreciated the great work and will to walk around with the kibo guys to also take the lead in their community. After we visited some homes in the lower section near the swap to check on the progress of sanitation in those homes. There was an old man who had just completed digging a pit of 15ft deep and planing to construct a slab and wall structures around. We advised him on how to construct a strong foundation for his latrine so that it’s stable and can last longer. He was extremely happy and appreciative for how we talked to him and even brought brilliant ideas to him. There are some two pits which we saw in other homes and one new shower area.
