Notes
Suzan, Tape and Jessica went to Kagulu B to guide the members as they build their own fuel efficient stoves. When they arrived there, they found the members all gathered at the meeting place with some of their local leaders. The community warmly welcomed Kibo staff to their village and together they sat down and first discussed how the activity was going to be carried out that day. They all agreed to form two groups so as to quicken the building process since they were going to build two stoves in two homes. With the help of Kibo staff, two groups were formed mixing up both men and women, elderly and young. This was very important because it enabled each member in the group to easily watch every process and also to participate without squeezing one another in the kitchens especially for those who looked weak. Each group which was led by Kibo staffs went to separate homes and began working together such as preparing the materials like picking the banana stems from the plantations, fetching water while pouring it in the big drums, digging the dirt from the termite anthill and carrying it to the home compound near the kitchens. It was so encouraging to see each member participating in some steps and doing so, enabled each one to learn easily. After measuring basins of dirt and mixing it with grass under the guidance of Kibo staff, they all joined in stamping the dirt while singing and dancing until it turned soft and ready for building the stoves. The dirt was then carried into the kitchens and the members began building the stoves step by step while Kibo staffs kept on correcting their mistakes because most of them had not mastered some steps like fixing the banana stems at the rightful positions. Finally two fuel stoves were successfully built that day and later on the same day, they walked around the village monitoring some of the program facilities such as the stoves, dish racks, latrines, shower areas and kitchens. Some members had well maintained all their home facilities by smearing them and making repairs. Suzan thanked all the members for participating in the program activities and encouraged them to see that they maintained all their home facilities so that they lived a good healthy life with their families. The meeting came to an end with the members wishing Kibo staff a safe journey back home.
