- Notes
- While in the village, Tom was accompanied by four committee members and together they visited the lower section checking and encouraging residents about the improvements and construction of hand washing facilities.
One of the committee members first brought a complaint about some residents who took pick axes but they have not been sharing them with other residents who want to dig pit claiming that they don’t have the pick axes.
On this issue, Tom encouraged the committee members to inquire from the treasurer about how pick axes have been distributed as well as following up with the committee members about. Tom also encouraged the committee members to encourage residents to share pick axes and even help each other in the digging and construction of the latrine.
After sharing about the pick axes, they started moving towards homes of the lower section. In the first home, they found and elderly man who recently constructed a new latrine. Tom thanked the man and encouraged him to keep the latrine clean and safe for his people. He also encouraged the man to construct a hand washing stand. He said he was going to request his grand children to help him in getting the bricks and he will construct.
In another home Tom and the committee members found a new pit and they had just constructed the floor. Tom encouraged him to mix mud and use it in the construction of the floor and mud is stronger. Tom also encouraged him about constructing the hand washing stand. only two residents had constructed the hand washing stand. Tom encouraged him to also help his father to also get a ha d washing facility.
After moving around, The committee suggested that they will be focusing on hand washing improvements. Tom after left for jinja.
