Notes
Alex and Chris visited Nabituluntu village to meet the community members and discuss about forming the village committee, in our company we had Mrs Hannah who is a student of entrepreneurship from California, she came to learn from kibo and the communities as well. Alex and Chris took Hannah around checking on what different Kibo programs have done in the community for example the stoves, the hand washing facilities, the pit latrines and mvule trees as well , Hannah was impressed as well however she wished that all these should be reflected on the Kibo website, Hannah said more detail is needed on the website because what she saw was more than what she read on kibo website. Prior to our visit, Alex and Chris had promised to help Nabituluntu community form its leadership, Nabituluntu is one of the villages that have a challenge of leadership so it was important for Alex and Chris to help the community elect able and hardworking leaders that will help implement Mvule curriculum. Before elections commenced, Chris cautioned the members about the qualities of good leaders and their roles as well, this is because Kibo emphasizes strong leadership that can develop a sustainable relationship between Kibo and the community. Chris also encouraged gender balance and equality when electing leaders, he said each one had a role to play in developing their community. Then the members were given a chance to nominate candidates they believe can be strong and able leaders, Kibo does this to empower communities to believe in there leaders and also because kibo believes the community members know each other well. Elections were by show of hands and the community was able to elect a committee of seven members including three men and four women and below is the list of names of the committee. LC1 - Mr Paul Balinaine Chairperson- Mr Samwiri Galevu Vice Chairperson- Mrs Lovisa Mande Secretary- Mrs Monica Tegu Treasurer- Mrs Tibagonzeka Monica Mobilizer- Mrs Cissy Nakiyemba Publicity- Sande Moses. In their acceptance speeches, the elected leaders thanked the members for entrusting in them such a great responsibility and called on the members to cooperate and work hard to implement Mvule curriculum. The next meeting will be about meeting new leaders and empowering them to carry out their roles.
